lyrics
Brothers
Words and music by Nickolas Travis
It started out like everyday, the sun was shining down in through the windowpane.
Shone onto my face. ‘Til I could sleep no more.
Smoked a quick cigarette then I was out the door.
Along the way I spotted a friend.
Coming towards me his eyes fixed on me from just across the bend.
Now, as hired guns we’d seen our fair share of jobs pulled through.
And I just wretched when I asked the next and he said to me, “It’s you.”
My blood ran cold and my brain went numb.
I knew my friends could do some things but I never saw this coming.
“What’s this?” I said. He shook his head.
“Seems there has been a change in plans.”
And for all of this time I was thinking that we were brothers.
I got it wrong again, but it’s for the last time.
And the rest of the time I was screaming out, “Please no, God no!”
And the rest of the time was the rest of my time.
A fight broke out, but soon was done.
These things get over quickly when there is a gun.
And when it went off, I didn’t hear no bang.
Nothing but visions of my mother as she sang.
“Don’t be scared, it’s okay.
Don’t be scared, now you’re safe.”
It’s over, now I don’t make sound.
I don’t make a move and to the worms I’m food.
‘Cause he dug a hole that’s so deep down.
Thanks to my friend I’ll not be found.
